A Toast to 250 Years 🇺🇸🥃 – Journal #008

Like America, it begins with humble ingredients and endless possibility. It is shaped by hard work, patience, and time. Each barrel tells a different story, yet together they become part of something much larger—a tradition passed from one generation to the next.
Bourbon can’t be hurried.
It asks for patience. It rewards craftsmanship. And with time, it becomes something richer than it ever could have been on day one by itself.
As America celebrates 250 years, I can’t help but think that our story is much the same.
We’re a nation of makers, dreamers, farmers, entrepreneurs, and families. We honor where we’ve been while looking forward to what’s still ahead. We celebrate life’s milestones with those we love and find joy in the simple act of raising a glass together.
That’s what I love most about bourbon.
Not because it’s celebrated as America’s native spirit—but because it has a way of reminding us to slow down. To savor. To listen. To celebrate. To appreciate the journey that brought us together.
At My Bourbonista, every pour is an opportunity to discover a new bourbon, hear a new story, and create a new memory.
So as we celebrate 250 years of America, I raise my Glencairn in gratitude—for the traditions that connect us, the freedom that allows us to gather, and the stories still waiting to be written.
Happy 250th, America!

Toasted Marshmallow Old Fashioned – Journal #007
With the nights getting a little longer, and all the feels of summer a little closer, it makes me think about fun summer cocktails. Here’s where the Toasted Marshmallow Old Fashioned takes front and center.
This delicious cocktail makes for an interesting twist to the traditional fireside S’mores. It infuses the classic Old Fashioned with the delicious flavors of toasted marshmallows – perfect for entertaining.
Sit outside by the fire with me and I’ll pour you a glass of this lovely bourbon cocktail.
Let’s get started!
Toasted Marshmallow Old Fashioned
Ingredients:
- 2 oz your favorite bourbon
- 1/2 oz toasted marshmallow simple syrup (recipe below)
- 2-3 dashes chocolate bitters (optional, but recommended for depth)
- Graham cracker crumbs (for rimming)
- Toasted marshmallow (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare the glass by rimming it with graham cracker crumbs (spray rim with vodka for best sticking results without compromising flavor!)
- Combine bourbon, toasted marshmallow simple syrup, and bitters (if using) in a mixing glass.
- Add ice and stir to chill.
- Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice and garnish with a toasted marshmallow (see photo for inspiration).
Toasted Marshmallow Simple Syrup (Homemade)
Ingredients:
- cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 10-12 regular-sized marshmallows (toasted lightly)
- Instructions:
-
- Toast marshmallows lightly using a kitchen torch or stovetop flame.
- Combine water, sugar, and toasted marshmallows in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir until marshmallows are melted and sugar is dissolved (around 5 minutes).
- Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any charred bits.
- Let cool completely before use and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Prepare Glass (Optional): Rim the cocktail glass with graham cracker crumbs by moistening the rim with a little syrup or vodka spray for dipping into the crumbs.
Combine Ingredients: In a mixing glass, combine the bourbon, marshmallow simple syrup, and bitters.
Stir and Chill: Add a large ice cube to the mixing glass and stir until chilled.
Strain and Garnish: Strain the chilled cocktail into the prepared glass over a large ice cube. Skewer the marshmallows, toast with a kitchen torch or stovetop flame, and place them on the rim of the glass or over the drink as garnish. You can also add chocolate shavings.
Now, sit down with me, sit back and take a sip of this delicious and visually appealing bourbon cocktail with a nod to the delightful flavors of fireside toasted marshmallows. Oh, and least I forget…I brought chocolate!
Cheers!
Gathered Around The Table – Journal #006
Some of life’s greatest moments happen around the table.
Not because of the table itself, but because of who gathers there.
It’s where little hands once colored pictures for Mother’s Day. Where family dinners turned into stories that still make us laugh years later. It’s where anniversaries are celebrated with a quiet toast, children become adults, and friends become family.
As Greg and I celebrate another wedding anniversary, I’m reminded that the years are measured less by the calendar and more by the moments we’ve shared around our own table. The conversations. The laughter. The traditions. The people we’ve welcomed into our home and into our lives.
Perhaps that’s why I love what I do so much.
Every weekend, I have the privilege of creating another table for someone else. A wedding where two families become one. A rehearsal dinner filled with anticipation. A birthday, retirement, anniversary, or bachelor/bachelorette party where friends linger just a little longer because the conversation is too good to leave.
The bourbon may be what first brings everyone together, but they remember the stories shared, the laughter that echoed around the room, and the feelings shared together.
Because in the end, the finest experiences aren’t simply poured into a glass.
They’re created around the table.
Here’s to the tables that bring us together — the bourbon that makes it special — and to the people who make it feel like home.
An Elegant Pour – Journal #005
Journal #005 | April 10, 2026
An Elegant Pour

Luxury is rarely loud.
It lives in the details —
in the warmth of candlelight,
the glimmer of crystal,
the quiet beauty of guests gathered around something unexpected.
A beautifully curated bourbon tasting brings a distinct kind of sophistication to a wedding celebration. Rich amber hues, polished presentation, and the soft clink of Glencairn glasses create a moment that feels intimate, elevated, and exquisitely styled.
At My Bourbonista, we believe the most exceptional weddings are defined not only by what is seen, but by what is experienced.
And sometimes, the most unforgettable detail of all…is the pour.
Bourbon, beautifully done.

February Reflections
February showed up beautifully this year — the kind of month that reminds me why bourbon is never just about what’s in the glass… it’s about where life takes you while you’re holding it.
My Bourbonista spent time under the desert sky — Phoenix and Scottsdale — where everything feels a touch warmer, slower, and intentionally savored. The pours felt different there. Not louder. Not bigger. Just… open.
Hibiki Harmony with sushi — delicate, precise, almost conversational. The kind of pairing that makes you lower your voice without realizing it. Filet of beef alongside E.H. Taylor Bottled in Bond — structured, confident, and grounded. A handshake you remember. Buffalo Trace with fresh Mediterranean fare with a rooftop golden sunset at the Global Ambassador — warm air, olive oil, citrus, laughter… the bourbon didn’t lead the moment, it belonged to it.
And an evening beneath the stars at the boutique Hermosa Inn in Paradise Valley — Woodford Reserve in hand, chilled crab claws on ice, as classical Spanish acoustic guitarist Esteban played — the bourbon as smooth as the strum and as intricate as the fingerpicking. Bucket list item fulfilled!
That’s the thing I keep relearning:
Bourbon doesn’t create the memory — it settles into it.
I bring that feeling back with me to the tasting table.
So when you sit down at a My Bourbonista experience, you’re not just tasting notes of caramel, oak, or citrus peel. You’re feeling February — warm, light, easy conversation, and the rhythm of an evening unfolding at exactly the right pace.
You’ll feel the beat of the warm, Sonoran February vibes. 🥃

January has been a whirlwind in the very best way. This month’s bridal expos have been nothing short of inspiring, and the Rosemont, Illinois show was a smashing success. It was energizing to meet so many newly engaged couples—each one thoughtfully and intentionally planning a wedding day that perfectly reflects them.
What stood out most was a clear and exciting shift in how couples are envisioning their celebrations. Today’s weddings are moving beyond the traditional “sit-down and watch” formality. Instead, couples are embracing entertaining, enjoyable, and interactive experiences that invite guests to truly partake in the day.
This on-trend movement transforms guests from passive observers into engaged participants. Whether it’s a guided bourbon tasting, a curated experience station, or an interactive moment woven seamlessly into the celebration, couples want their guests to leave with more than memories—they want them to leave with an experience – one that sparks conversation, connection, and delight long after the last dance.
At My Bourbonista, we love being part of this evolution. A wedding is no longer just about what guests see—it’s about what they experience. And nothing makes us happier than helping couples create a moment that feels refined, interactive, and unmistakably personal.
My Bourbonista – Chicago’s Premier Wedding Bourbon Tasting Concierge can help you create a memorable, engaging experience that your guests will be talking about long after your special day.
Cheers to meaningful moments and unforgettable celebrations. 🥃
